Basic Pistol Safety Course

This class is is in two parts and is your first step to obtaining a Pistol Permit that allows you to carry a handgun in Connecticut. This course if for adults age 21 years and older regardless of previous shooting experience or NRA affiliation.

Attention: The fees for the National Rifle Association - Part One below - have been eliminated, or have changed. Call Manny Rodrigues for details.

This course is in two parts. The first is an e-learning program that you can do online at your own pace. To register visit the NRA website, NRAOnlineTraining.org. Here you will be asked to pay the $60 fee for Part One with a credit card.

Part One, The Online Portion of this Course, Includes:

  • Gun safety
  • Proper operation of revolvers and semi-automatic pistols
  • Selecting and storing a pistol
  • The fundamentals of shooting and pistol inspection and maintenance
  • Course taken at your own pace.

Part Two, The Instructor Led Training, Includes:

  • Free parking, coffee, donuts, lunch, snacks, bottled water
  • Use of firearms and ammunition
  • Gun safety
  • How to safely load and unload your gun
  • Be sure to bring your own hearing and eye protection
  • Stable shooting positions
  • Final shooting qualification
  • Proper handling of your weapon
  • Pistol range protocol
  • Live firing of 100 rounds of ammunition
  • We provide pistols and ammunition, please do not bring your own pistol.

Upon successful completion of part one and two, you will receive the NRA Certificate of Pistol Safety which is required to apply for a Connecticut State Pistol Permit. This gives you the ability to purchase and carry firearms and ammunition in Connecticut.

Cost for Part One: $60 This you will pay online when you sign up at the NRA website has been waived.

Cost for Part Two: $140. A non-refundable payment $50 reserves your place in class. The balance of $90 is to be paid the day of class; cash or check only.

Total Cost: Part One ($60), Part Two ($140), Town Application Fee ($74.75), Town Permit Fee (70.00), and State Permit ($70) is about $420.

Windham Fish & Game Club is on Mannings Bridge Road, which does not show up on any map. However, if you have a GPS, you can plug in "267 Jerusalem Road, Windham, Connecticut" and your GPS should bring you to the junction of Jerusalem Rd and Mannings Bridge Rd.

When traveling south on Jerusalem Hill Road, Mannings Bridge Road will be on your right approximately 0.8 miles south of Indian Hollow Road.

When traveling north on Jerusalem Hill Road, Mannings Bridge Road will be on your left approximately 0.4 miles north of Insalaco Drive.
